Red Moon Hollow is a family collaboration business and farm made up of Liza Sexson (garden manager, herbal student and general craft authority), Andy Sexson (woodworking artisan & infrastructure manager). We live, work and create in the small town of Anderson just outside Indianapolis, IN. We create purposeful things to use in your everyday life.
Her Story: I come from a long line of women quilters and seamstresses, so naturally I grew up crafty. When I was young my mother started a small business making critters and pillows out of worn-out quilts. I started coming up with ideas for a business of my own and she let me sell my crocheted jewelry and rag balls alongside her creations. I've been crafting ever since. I tend to steer towards fabric crafts because the color choices and quality available now is amazing. I love to combine vintage fabrics with modern ones to create simple, beautiful pieces. I do step away from fabric at times and work with other mediums such as paper, wood and paint because what's life without a little variety.
Along the way I have also grown to love gardening. We purchased our current property in 2019 and have reworked the land to include a 1/3 acre garden, space for chickens and have begun to reestablish native trees and plants. Currently, I'm learning about medicinal herbs and natural fabric dyeing. In 2024 I completed my coursework through the Chestnut School of Herbs and have begun to add herbal allies and remedies to our store offerings. I hope to continue to gain more knowledge so that I can bring our customers beautiful items for their home and health.
His Story: I had never done any woodworking until Liza showed me a picture of some bookshelves and asked if I could make something similar. Twenty years later, I have made many of the pieces in our home, completely remodeled our small farm house and have even sold some smaller items to friends and family. One of things that draws me to woodworking is using hand tools. I have spent a lot of time putting together a collection of antique tools and given them a second chance to perform. Many of the hand planes I use were manufactured before WWI and are higher quality than most of the ones currently available. The objects I make are meant to be practical & functional and many of them will develop a patina through use that will bring a smile to your face and memories to reminisce about.
We truly are a family business. Our home is where our life happens. Thank you for taking the time to get to know us better.
